Yam, congratulations! Although technically there are 2 Filipino films in Cannes right now ("Serbis" and "Now Showing"), I think we can say that there are actually 3 Filipino-directed films in 2008 Cannes Film Fest. Go Philippines!!!
I have an idea, well, a dream. If I know anybody in the Independent Film community here, I would propose to them this. As some sort of 'anti-establishment' message, and keeping with the 'independent spirit', why not hold a separate film festival outside of Metro Manila every December (that runs parallel to the very commercial Metro Manila Film Festival ran by city mayors) to show the year's (best) independent films?
It doesn't have to be in actual movie theaters (which, I believe, are mandated to show only the MMFF films during that time). It could be held in a big parking lot (or a vacant lot), with a white blanket and a mobile projector (which should be easy, considering the indies are going digital now) and show the films at night? I would drive all the way, say to Laguna, just to see quality films in December. Just imagine. Watching quality films with the stars on a cold but comfortable December night with hot coffee. That would be awesome. If they feel to honor their peer's work, there could be an awards ceremony in a tent (akin to the Independent Spirit Awards in the US) at the end of the festival.
You know, "if we build it, they will come".
Just a dream.

It's me again. This idea came about when I saw "Enteng Kabisote" last year (or was it 2 yrs ago? I don't remember, and I choose to forget).
Anyway, I felt so insulted by that movie. It was a sequence after sequence of commercials (detergent, bakeshop, etc.), and to think I shelled out money to watch it. It was a rip-off. I could just be watching a TV show and have the option to flip the channel or turn it off. I could storm out of the theater and demanded my money back. Oh well.
As if to add insult to injury, that film won that year's Best Picture!?!?
Go figure.

I'm a big fan of horror film and I've watched Sigaw before. I got bits and pieces of dismay with the film actually, but kudos to you to make your product in hollywood. Hope this would give justice to the original.

I appreciated the film. I mean, saludo ako sa iyo nakatapak ng hollywood ang craft mo. But shempre, there's always room for improvement.
I find hollywood remake to be disappointing actually. Like what happened to the other movies. Di ko pa napapanood yung one of the most favorite kong horror - the Eye na niremake, but I heard, disappointed ang marami. I do hope The Echo will stand out among the rest of hollywood remake.
